Nissan reveals first images of its new bewinged customer race car. We like

Nissan has unveiled some images of its new Z GT4 racer, and what it’s mostly got us thinking about is how good a road-going Nismo-spec Z would be. Do the right thing, Nissan. Then bring it over to Europe for good measure.

Anyway, there’s not much detail to accompany the Z GT4 images so far. We’ll apparently learn more at the official unveil at the 2022 SEMA show, although we do know that Nissan’s motorsports department has tuned the 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 (it gets 400bhp as standard but GT4 regs allow up to 470bhp) and “optimised its chassis and suspension”.

Then there’s the aero kit, with that giant rear wing catching the eye and a new front splitter/grille helping the Z put on its angriest facial expression. At the rear the single-exit drainpipe exhaust makes us strangely happy. Particularly because Nissan has left the road car’s twin-exit rear bumper in place.

“Motorsports for Nissan is an expression of our passion and unrivalled expertise,” says Nissan boss Ashwani Gupta. “The Nissan Z continues to maintain its position as an exciting sports car that fascinates drivers with its driving dynamics and flexible powertrain. We are confident that this track-ready GT4-category Nissan Z will be ready to write another chapter in Nissan Z’s 50-plus-year legacy of speed.”

This, or the completely bonkers Z GT500 for the Japanese Super GT series?
